Learner Outcomes


Objectives

  1. Students will demonstrate the ability to create, proofread, edit, and print a variety of mailable documents using word processing software.
  2. The student will demonstrate efficient and proper use of word processing commands.
  3. The student will demonstrate work habits and attitudes appropriate for a word processing career.
  4. The student will demonstrate the ability to perform word processing tasks in a computer environment.

 

Competencies

  1. The student will understand computer terminology relating to word processing software.
  2. The student will correctly use the insert and typeover modes to edit business and personal documents.
  3. The student will identify errors using appropriate proofreading skills.
  4. The student will demonstrate the most efficient cursor movement commands in word processing.
  5. The student will correctly delete characters, words, lines, and pages of a word processing document.
  6. The student will apply rules for correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling in written communications.
  7. The student will edit rough draft copy by selecting items and using move (cut and paste) and copy commands.
  8. The student will format various documents using such features as hyphenation, justification, margins, tabs, and widow and orphan protection.
  9. The student will apply page numbers, headers and footers to business documents.
  10. The student will demonstrate advanced formatting features included in the preparation of business correspondence, outlines, reports, itineraries, tables and miscellaneous business forms.
  11. The student will print documents from screen and from disk, using various output devices.
  12. The student will manage files on a hard disk or a network drive, including renaming, deleting, moving, and copying.
  13. The student will correctly utilize the spelling, thesaurus and grammar check utilities.
  14. The student will create personalized form letters by merging different file formats.
  15. The student will search for unique strings of text. 16. The student will use the search and replace feature in a variety of business documents.
  16. The student will use the select functions to enhance the appearance of text and documents.
  17. The student will access help screens on the computer.
  18. The student will be able to work with multiple documents at the same time.
  19. The student will select and use various paper sizes and types.
  20. The student will demonstrate the different methods of sorting information.
  21. The student will create and edit columns.
  22. The student will create graphics, horizontal and vertical lines, and tables.
  23. The student will apply all learned word processing commands/features to a simulation and produce mailable documents in the most efficient way possible.
  24. The student will work productively and under time pressure in a simulated word processing environment.
  25. The student will prioritize and make appropriate formatting decisions while completing in-basket exercises.
  26. The student will create, edit, and use macros to increase their efficiency in producing documents.
  27. The student will demonstrate speed and accuracy levels appropriate for word processing careers.
