Workshop 1806

TITLE:

Bringing the New Arts’ Standards into Every Class We Teach

DESCRIPTION:

This workshop is designed to assist teachers PK-12 in acquiring tools and instructional strategies for integrating the arts (e.g., music, dance, visual arts and drama) into the classroom and meeting diversity within classrooms in a positive manner. The workshop uses Arts integration as defined by the Kennedy Center (NYC) as “… an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both”.  The workshop is designed to help teachers gain a better understanding concerning the impact on cognition through the arts and how the arts builds habits of mind that may support academic and social success for student’s overall academic and social/emotional development within the school systems. This 2-day workshop will use a blended learning model in that we will work together in acquiring knowledge and skills of arts integration, arts education advocacy, and arts education research and policy for assisting teachers for the enrichment of learning in their classrooms.
