TITLE:
Quilt Across The Curriculum
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
From nature to art, our brains are hard-wired to see beauty in the unity created by symmetry and repetitive design. The use of geometry and symmetry can be found in flower petals and floor tiles, in faces and friezes, in walnuts and wallpaper and many places in between! What better way to bring math to life than through quilting. Each student will create one 12” x 12” block/square that incorporates a tessellation from four identical “tiles”. This block will be used to create a throw pillow. Students will also learn how to use this project in their own classroom as a way to show students that math can be used in many aspects of our curriculum and vice versa.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Fabric will be provided, but participants may choose to bring their own.

OPI Renewal Units -OR- 1 semester credit Continuing Education Credits (MSU-Northern) will be available ($150 - paid at the workshop).

Participants will be responsible for travel, lodging, and meals.
