TITLE:
Poverty: The Elephant in the Classroom
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
As educators, we have a responsibility to build equity for all students in our schools. Our students that live in poverty are as worthy of attending good schools with teachers that understand them, as those not living in poverty. A lot of research has been done and made accessible to help us to transform schools into a place that better meets the needs of all students. This commitment begins with a better understanding of the meaning and influence poverty has on the lives of the students we serve. As two educators that were once students who grew up in situational poverty, we're driven to help educators understand poverty and its impact on students, as well as how to support these students to create an equitable education for them.

Bring your favorite note taking tools, snacks, an open heart and thinking caps.

OPI Renewal Units -OR- 1 semester credit Continuing Education Credits (MSU-Northern) will be available ($150 - paid at the workshop).

Participants will be responsible for travel, lodging, and meals.
