TITLE:
Simplify Writing - Teaching the 6 Traits
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Are you and your students overwhelmed when facing the task of creating quality writing? The 6 Traits of Writing can chunk writing instruction into manageable sections, making writing more concrete, and less abstract - maybe even fun! We will practice several pre-writing and organizational techniques and write and evaluate samples from elementary to highschool levels using rubrics for organization, ideas and content, sentence fluency, word choice, voice, and conventions just as students would. We will also play games and do activities to strengthen the traits and create materials to teach the 6 Traits of Writing. Most importantly, we will share our best writing ideas.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Bring a laptop for writing activities & a copy of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” or “If You Give a Moose a Cookie” (if you have one), favorite writing ideas to share.
Send poor/high quality writing samples with no names, only grade level you might want to evaluate by May 25th: dsievers@power.k12.mt.us
